A Rose is a Rose on Handstamped Storage

I’ve been working hard on the Stamp That classroom.  Part of the work is making good inspirational displays but at the same time I need it to work for me as storage.  Here’s something I worked on today.

I wish I had taken a picture of this before I decorated it.  I picked this wooden piece up really cheap at a yard sale this past summer.  With its slightly crookedly cut pieces and nail-heads showing I think it might be handmade.

The stamp set I used is A Rose is a Rose found on page 99 of the Idea Book & Catalog.    Craft ink made it very easy to stamp directly onto the wood in Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant, Mellow Moss and Always Artichoke.  This stamp set is a two-step stamping set which gives more dimension to the image.

If you know me, you know I’m not really all that into bows.  The reason I added the Whisper White Satin bow was to cover up a dark spot in the wood.  I’m not really sure what the spot was from but after I stamped the roses it just had to be covered up.  I also added Elegant Eggplant narrow grosgrain ribbon, and Mellow Moss taffeta ribbon to add a little extra pizazz.

So, now all I need to do is decide is what to store in here!

  1. Now that is adorable! I need to start going to yard sales more. :o) You could drill a hole, hang it in the hall, add some cup hooks, and use it for keys. You could put outgoing mail in the one section. (All depending on the size of the shelf, of course; I can’t really tell how big it is.) Very creative, Becky!

  2. That’s really neat! You know, I always thought that stamping was ‘just’ for cards & scrapbooking. You have opened my eyes to another great idea! I have often seen unstained wood craft items at ACMoore and other craft stores (as well as yard sales too!). I think this is a great idea to make something really special! I have a spice rack upstairs that has me thinking now – I bought it at a yard sale a few years ago, and it needs a little something…you got me thinking!!

  3. Wow. I have this stamp set and have never used it. The application of applying it on a storage vessel never crossed my mind. I have a canister set that will no longer look so plain. Thanks. You are a great muse.

  4. That is adorable!!

  5. This is one of my favorite sets….I love how this came out and how genius of you to think of how to cover up a blemish in the wood. Thank you for sharing and giving us NEW ideas!
