Decorative Stampin' Up! Ribbon Storage

by Becky on September 9, 2010

My sister recently sent some spice jars to me to “find something to do with.”  I decided to do just that yesterday.  I had an idea and I like how it turned out!  I always have lots of little scraps of ribbon lying around and now a bunch of them have a new home!

Ribbon jars

I love how these jars look on top of my shelves!  The jars serve two purpases, it organizes my scraps and makes my stamp room look bright and colorful in an organized sort of way.  I often lack organization but I really do try!

Here’s a close up of a couple of the jars.  As you can see, I have ribbon of a variety of sizes and styles in the jars but it’s all the same color in each jar.  Here I have pictured the jars holding Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie.

I thought about using the Modern Label Punch on the front of each jar and labeling with the correct color but I decided against it.  I know what color they are I didn’t want to cover up any of the colorful ribbon, I want to be able to see it but if you take my idea with the jars you may want to consider the tags for your own.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my colorful “new” jars!

How clever! How pretty! How colorful! – and how organized. You wow me with your ideas. Now I suppose I will feel guilty about keeping my ribbon ends and scraps in a jumbled pile!

I guess I forgot to mention that not every single scrap went into a jar . . . . but a bunch of them! :)

It would be cute to make label tags with the tag punch and tie the tag on with a little hemp or matching ribbon, instead of covering up the jar. Maybe an even smaller punch would work.

It certainly perks up the shelves. How lucky we are that Stampin’ Up! offers such a variety of colors!

Becky,
I love the idea of displaying the ribbons in jars. Not only pretty
but right where you can see it and “remember” to use when
working! You are so clever and very organized!

Becky I love how you’ve done this. My spice jars are actually in a revolving rack and I punched a 1″ circle of the color and glued to the base (bottom) of each jar so I can tell at a glance what colors they are. If I every get organized I might even do them by core colors. In the meantime, I really like the way you’re displaying these……. darned pretty! Thanks for your great tip, I’m sure the light bulbs are going off for other stampers now!

How did you get the smell of the spices out? I have a great jar that I got some gourmet pepper corns in and I can’t get the smell of pepper out. I love this look and would like to do it.
