Inspirational Stamping on “Trash”

Our “10 minute Challenge” this week is an inspirational challenge.  I was the lucky one to submit the picture to be used for inspiration this week.  I’ve always loved this picture I took about 5 years ago on the beach of Ocean City, MD so I decided to use it to inspire everyone in their creations today.

I may have been the one to submit the inspirational picture but that still doesn’t mean I had any idea what to do with it. . .  that is . . . . until I checked my mail today!  I received this fun little canister in the mail with samples of Crystal Light.  Seemed a shame to waste a canister that’s a little heavier than chipboard so . . . . let’s see what can be made of it!

Seeing as this is going to be a 3D project I’m allowed 30 minutes instead of the 10 allowed for cards – so glad about that!!

The first order of business was to grab a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and cut it.  From there I picked up the Color Spritzer and several different Stampin’ Write Markers in various brown shades.  I spritzed all over the cardstock as well as the lid of the canister.  (For those who are very observant, no, I am not holding the color spritzer correctly in this picture, I can’t spritz and take pictures at the same time!)

I used the grass stamp from the Inspired by Nature stamp set, stamping it across the cardstock first in Crumb Cake (pictured above) and then in Chocolate Chip classic ink.

Have you ever been to a beach where you couldn’t find full seashells, just bits and pieces?  For some reason we still have to pick up pieces, even if they aren’t very big, we just have to come home with something!  So, I scrounged around (before starting the clock) and came up with a bag with some shell pieces and it actually had a stick in it just like is in the picture!  Yeah!

A little Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon, some shell bits, stick and linen thread . . .

20 minutes later the project is finished.  I’m really temped to just close this post now and leave you hanging but I guess I’ll reveal my trash turned into treasure!

Here it is!  I used the stick, linen thread and some of the nicer pieces of shell on the lid.  The Stampin’ Up! Crystal Effects glue works wonderfully for this kind of thing!  I use Crystal Effects any time I need to adhere heavy things (ie. we used it to repair clay snakes at Vacation Bible School today).

Here’s a close up look at the lid.  Our Linen thread is wonderful for this kind of thing.  The thread is very soft and flexible whereas the Twine is very stiff and thicker.

Here are the bits of shell I put at the base of the canister.  Once again I used Crystal Effects to hold these.  The ribbon below the sheashells is our retired Chocolate chip grosgrain ribbon which is being held on with Sticky Strip.

And here’s one more look at it.  I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out in just 20 minutes time.  I’m not sure yet what I’m going to store in here but it’s bound to be handy for something!

For the fun of it, I thought I’d show you a scrapbook layout I did a year and a half ago using the very picture I used as the inspiration in 8 x 10 size.
