Pretties kit dragonfly card

Pick a Petal dragonflyI sat down today to work on projects for my party in Bel Air, MD this coming Saturday but soon found myself distracted (with more than the fact that my sons were playing rather than napping.)  I wanted to try out this card and it was going to have to be done before I could expect to get anything else accomplished!

Inspiration for this card came from the Stampin’ Up! website that is available to demonstrators only.  Each day Stampin’ Up! posts six ideas in their Stampers Showcase.  (You can view these special projects as well if you would like to purchase the Stampin’ Up! starter kit which is on sale this month.)  That’s were I saw this cute dragonfly made from the Pick a Petal stamp set and the Pretties Kit.  I have made a dragonfly from the stamp set before but only using stamps, never with the Pretties Kit which includes beads, hat pins, pearls, and silk flowers.

Stampin' Up! Pick a PetalFor the rest of the card, I used the Upsy Daisy stamp set on vellum with Elegant Eggplant ink and silver brads to help attach the vellum to the card.  “Embrace Life” comes from the Embrace Life stamp set and is embossed in silver, as are the wings.  Whisper White taffeta ribbon and Elegant Eggplant cardstock finish out the supplies.

I want to give you a few tips for working with vellum.  You can not use most adhesives with vellum’s because it will show right through the paper.  Vellum is semi-translucent and therefore anything under it is liable to be seen – that is a good, and sought after, quality most of the time!  I have found that using brads is often the best way to tack vellum onto a piece of cardstock or designer series paper.  Another option is covering up the adhesive marks.  If you notice in this card, I used ribbon at the bottom of the vellum.  What you hopefully won’t notice is that I used a small amount of adhesive on the bottom of the vellum and then placed ribbon over the top so you can’t see the marks.  Vellum comes in a couple different weights, however, you will need to keep this information on hand for any vellum you use.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to stamping with a couple friends.  We are going to make thank you notes to put in the Missionary Closet at our church in New Freedom, PA.  Missionaries who are on deputation or furlough are always in need of cards to give to those who provide them with accomodations or meals.  If you attend a local church perhaps you would like to give this idea some thought as well.

Have a wonderful day and try to do a little stamping!
