Tags til Christmas & Punch Cardinal Card

by Becky on September 7, 2010

I hope you had a wonderful labor day yesterday!  I decided to take the day off and visit my parents.  We had homemade deviled eggs, potato salad, vinegar cucumbers . . . . hmmmm!  Oh, oops!  I’m not supposed to be talking about food!

Handmade Cardinal Christmas Card

I’ve decided it’s time to get in the Christmas card making mood.  After all, our first Christmas card making class is only 8 days away!  I recently saw someone make a cardinal using our bird punch and I knew right away I  would need to make one for on a card.

Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper

To make this card I used our new Tags til Christmas stamp set along with Deck the Halls DSP (both can be found in our new Holiday Mini Catalog) along with our bird punch, Real Red 1/8″ taffeta ribbon, Victoria Crochet Trim and “Merry Christmas” from the Come to Bethlehem stamp set.

Have you signed up for the September 16 Christmas Card Making Class?  We have just 5 spaces left in the class and I’m hoping they’re going to fill quickly!  If you want to sign up be sure to contact me right away with your payment so I can reserve your spot.  (Your spot is not reserved until payment is received.)  You can see more information on my Stampin’ Up! Events page.

your card is outstanding! Won’t you share with us how you made the cardinal or tell us what web site has the cardinal? Thanks, Fran

Hi Fran! Thank you for visiting my website and leaving a comment!

I’m sorry, I didn’t find the cardinal on a website, I just saw it used on a card by someone else. You need to punch the cardinal twice so you get two wings. Use the second wing behind the bird to create the point on his head. Then just use a Stampin’ Write Marker to draw the black on his face. I also used a sponge to sponge a little ink around the edges of the bird and wing cutouts. A Stampin’ Dimensional adds a nice little touch to pop out his wing a little bit. That’s all there is to it!

This card really says “Christmas” to me. I like the colors and the way everything works together so well. It’s quite elegant!

This is a beautiful card. I have a question about the label – did you cut out the red label? I love coming to your blog each time you update on Stampin’ Connection. Thanks for blessing my day. :)

Hi Shari,

After punching out the Tags til Christmas image I adhered it to Real Red cardstock and cut around it with my paper snips.

Fantastic card, Becky. You really came up with a winner here. Thanks for sharing how the cardinal was done and also how you made a mat for the label.

I’ve seen other people trying to pair up the Lace Trim with ribbons but the small ribbon You paired with the Lace trim looks the best! TFS!

It’s great, and I had to expand your pic LOTS to see that it was a point added behind the bird – it’s a great idea and TFS! I LOVE cardinals and so does my Mom so I’ve gotta make one now! Thanx for the inspiration!
