When reality strikes a crafter

Rome VBS Family PosterI am the director of Vacation Bible School for our church (Grace Bible Churchin New Freedom, PA) this year.  To be quite honest with you, although it wears me out a bit, I enjoy it!  Maybe it’s that I like to be in charge or maybe it’s because I like to have my hand in every part, I’m not sure.  The reality of it all though, is that VBS supplies can be expensive and I’m always trying to save a buck.  We are doing the Rome theme through Group Publishing.  I wanted to have some posters they are selling, Go Go Boots Diehowever, I don’t need that many and I didn’t want to pay for all of them.

My first thoughts were to paint the posters.  We painted columns and the Roman Colosseum, we’d paint these posters too.  Wrong!  It suddenly hit me, the Big Shot and Circle Scissor Plus would make it so simple!  So, here you go, here are three of the five posters a friend and I made.  How wonderfully simple they were!

Decorative Accent DieOne of these days I’ll have to take a picture of the name tags we made using the Classic Sketches stamp set too.  I’m planning to use that stamp set to make thank you notes for all of my works and for the companies that donated goods for VBS as well (once we’re actually through VBS).  I’ve used the Big Shot to make letters for on bulletin boards advertising VBS too.  I love what I do!  I love the fact that I’m not confined to using my tools for just one thing, I can create all sorts of items and use them in so many areas of my life!

  1. Excellent ideas!
    Good job!

    See you tonight!

  2. Hi,
Our church just finished the VBS program with the Rome theme! Do you need a set of Roman columns (made with pvc pipe) and a cool arch made with styrofoam? It makes a beautiful backdrop for the place where you will have “Extollo” (songs). We’d love to give them to you. All you have to do is pick them up. We are in Germantown, MD. Email me!
