Dressing Up My Cardinal Christmas Card

Deck the Halls DSP

Welcome back to the Holiday Madness Blog Tour!  Some of you may recognize this card, I shared it with you a few weeks back.  After I posted about his card my sister gave me her thoughts on it.  She said the cardinal should be sitting on the branch, not under it.  Despite my best efforts to say he was sitting on an unseen branch below the other, it just wasn’t flying with her.

Alright, fine.  Here’s another attempt to make her happy (although I changed way more than the branch!)

Tags til Christmas and Bells & Boughs

Here we go!  I used the same branch stamp from the Tags til Christmas stamp set but this time I turned it upside down and didn’t stamp the pinecone (and I added a few of my own Always Artichoke pine needles too with a Stampin’ Write marker.)  Do you think she’ll be happy now?

Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper

Cards always look so much better in real life than in the pictures!  I wish you could see it in real life!

I used the Deck the Halls DSP and Decorative Label punch from the Holiday Mini catalog along with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, bird punch,Scallop Trim Border punch, and Antique Brads from the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  The colors are Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip.

This is the first I’ve really used the Antique Brads.  I like how they fit with this card so well!  What do you think?  I hope you’ll leave a quick comment and then click through to visit Laurie!

  5. Much better. Birds sit on branches…not hang from them with invisible cords! Good job.

  6. Love the simple elegance of these cards. Know they will show up in some of my upcoming events.

  7. Hello,
Love this card and the bird is adorable. How did you do the black part of the face? I woud love to make one of these but just can’t quite make out how the black is done.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Heather

    • I drew and colored the black part of the cardinals face using our Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. Nothing too technical I’m afraid. 🙂 It’s easiest to draw on the eye and then the beak and then draw the rest.

  8. Dear Nieces’ Mother: It is always good to have someone to keep us fanciful types anchored in reality!! 🙂

  9. They are both beautiful cards. The photos look fine but I can imagine the “real life” ones.

  10. Very pretty, Becky. I love your work.
